Retreat of the Lizard

After shooting a number of photos, our lizard friend (now dubbed Princess Alisha thanks to the vote of our many commentators) decided she had had enough of the paparazzi. She scurried this way and that way before deciding that the back way was the best way out. To be continued ...

Leaping lizards

Last year in San Antonio, we had one of the wettest summers in a long time. With that wet weather came a surfeit of frogs. The frogs were fun for the boys to catch, but it sure seemed like there were a lot of them that were flattened by cars while they were sunbathing in the street. This year, evolution seems to have taken us from amphibians to reptiles. It seems that everywhere we look we see lizards like the one pictured above. The lizards hang out in the bushes, on the house, on the basketball standard and one even scurried across my leg while I was doing yardwork. (I'm not sure who was more surprised, me or the lizard.) In spite of the booming lizard population, I have yet to see squished lizard in the road. Survival of the fittest, baby.

Climbing the wall

One of our big goals for the year is to get the front of the house ready for our potential move next summer. One of the projects I have been working on is a brick retaining wall for a shrubbery in front of the house. (Nee!) After a great deal of searching, I found the bricks that match the front of our house. The brick had been discontinued, so we bought the very last of it. Then, over New Year's break, I dug a trench and poured concrete for the footing. Then the project sat for about four months. (In my defense, even Teressa will admit that there was only one weekend over the course of those four months when the combination of weather and work schedule would have allowed me to work on the project. Well, the project is on the move now, as you can see from the photo above. I'm hoping to have the brick work done before I head off to Corpus Christi next week.

Big in Japan

During our trip, we found the best way to carry Sam around was in the front pack. He hardly ever complained. While we were at the Jefferson Memorial, we ran into a group of Japanese girls who thought Sam was really something. The next thing we know, there are four of them standing around us and asking to take photos. Who knew we would be the most exciting thing to see around the national monuments.

Washington D.C. trip

Washington D.C.

We just returned home last night from our big trip to the nation's capital. We had a wonderful trip and are grateful to Berlin and Majan for letting us stay in their home. We are also glad that Grandpa and Grandma Scott could come out to spend the week with us. The boys handled the trip better than expected. Samuel may perhaps be the best baby ever. He hardly ever fussed while being packed around the city. Above is a small sampling of our photos from the trip and I will perhaps add a few more entries detailing portions of the trip later on.

Copycats

When I saw Andrea and Seth's look-alike meter on Facebook, I decided to try it, too. (Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, right?) So far, it's looking the like the Scott side of the gene pool seems to be winning. Spencer looks slightly more like Ethan according to the meter, but Teressa will admit she thinks Spence looks like a Scott. The meter says that Mason, on the other hand, looks overwhelmingly like his father (who tends to favor the Wirkus side of the family, Teressa says). We're still looking for a picture of Samuel that the meter will accept.
